Forlorn Hope Wine Dinner
One of the best wines I’ve tasted in my entire life, a Forlorn Hope Suspiro del Moro Alvarelhao, got me thinking about putting together a wine dinner. I got in touch with Andrew Grossman, owner of Lagniappe Beverage here in Chicago.
Andrew works directly with the wine maker, Matthew Rorick, to bring these wines to Illinois. What I appreciate most about Mr. Rorick’s Forlorn Hope wines is that he has selected some Portugese varietals grown in sunny California.
So I composed an Iberian BBQ feast and paired each dish with one of Matthew’s wines.
Dinner was served at our friend Saya’s place, the force behind Mac n Cheese productions.
Here’s the menu:
- Tasting of Lushious Rose (exclusive Rose wine available only at Lush)
- grilled bacon-wrapped strawberry
- grilled oyster w/ oregano butter, pickled radish and cilantro gremolata, Paired w/ Nacre Semillon
- grilled quail salad w/ city farm greens and tarragon vinaigrette, Paired w/ Que Saudade Verdelho
- grilled pork blood sausage w/ fennel and fava beans, pickled rhubarb relish, Paired w/ Suspiro del Moro Alvarelhao
- grilled hanger steak w/ Cabrales cheese, russian blue potato mash and purslane salad, Paired w/ Old Woodsbull Syrah
- And for Dessert: Frozen ricotta strawberry custard, almond cake, balsamic caramel
